Mortgage protection

If something happened to you, would the house stay in the family?

Mortgage protection is life insurance sized to your mortgage, except the money goes to your family instead of the bank. They decide whether to clear the loan, keep paying it, or use it for something more urgent. Answer a few questions and see what it would take to cover yours.

  • Your family is the beneficiary, not the lender
  • Coverage stays level
  • No medical exam

Which province is your home in?

Coverage and rates vary by province, so this is where we start.

Not listed? We aren't able to help in Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, or the territories right now.

How much coverage are you looking for?

Most homeowners pick roughly what's still owing on their mortgage. A rough number is fine, you can fine-tune it later.

$300,000
$25k$250k$500k+
i How do people usually pick a number?

A common starting point is the DIME approach. Add up:

  • Debt other than the mortgage: credit cards, car loans, a line of credit.
  • Income your household would need to replace, usually five to ten years of it.
  • Mortgage balance still outstanding on the home.
  • Education you'd want covered for any children.

Plenty of people just cover the mortgage and stop there. Both are reasonable.

How old are you?

Age is the single biggest factor in what a policy costs.

We can only help Canadians aged 18 to 80.
If someone else in the household would like a quote, they're very welcome to use this form.

What is your gender?

Insurers price men and women differently, so this affects your quote.

Have you used tobacco or nicotine in the last 12 months?

Cigarettes, vapes, and cannabis all count. Answering honestly keeps your quote accurate.

Almost done. Who is this for?

Just so your quote has a name on it.

Last step: confirm your number

We'll text you a 6-digit code. It takes a few seconds and keeps bots out of the system.

Your number goes to one place. We never publish it or add you to unrelated marketing lists.
Nothing to do with your bank. Your lender is not involved and is not notified.

Your number is verified and your request is with a licensed Canadian advisor. They'll call you at your number. Keep your phone close by.

What happens next
1

A licensed advisor calls you

A real person, licensed in your province. They'll confirm the few details you just gave us, including what's still owing on the mortgage, so the numbers they quote are actually right.

2

You see your options

What it takes to cover the balance, what it takes to cover more, and what each costs per month. Plain figures, no jargon.

3

You decide, or you don't

If a plan makes sense you can usually apply on the same call, with no medical exam. If you'd rather think it over, that's a completely normal answer.

Get the most out of the call
  • Pick up even if the number looks unfamiliar. It's a licensed advisor, not an automated call, and most conversations run about ten minutes.
  • Know roughly what your mortgage payment is. It helps them frame the cost against something you already budget for.
  • Think about who'd be living in the house. A spouse, children, a parent. That's usually who the coverage is really for.
  • Ask about the bank's version. Most lenders sell their own mortgage insurance. It's worth understanding how the two differ before you choose.
Quick answers before your call
When will the advisor call?

Usually within a few minutes during business hours. If you finished this in the evening or on a weekend, expect the call on the next business day.

Does my lender find out?

No. This is a personal life insurance policy that you own. Your mortgage, your lender, and your existing payments are not affected in any way.

How is this different from the bank's mortgage insurance?

With a lender's policy the payout generally goes to the lender and shrinks as your balance drops. With a personal policy the coverage stays level and your family receives the money, then chooses what to do with it. Your advisor will go through the specifics.

Does this cost anything?

No. The quote and the advice are free, and you are never obligated to buy. If you do take out a policy, your only cost is the premium you agree to.

Who is Quickest Coverage?

Quickest Coverage is a lead referral service operated by JustRates Inc., a Canadian performance marketing company. We are not an insurance company or a broker, and we don't issue policies. We connect Canadians with licensed insurance brokers and advisors, and we are paid a referral fee when we do.

Your details go to the licensed advisor handling your request. We are paid a referral fee for the introduction, and we never add you to unrelated marketing.

How it works
1

2

3

A licensed advisor calls

They bring your options, answer your questions, and help you apply if you want to. No pressure either way.

Why homeowners look at this

The mortgage doesn't pause because someone died.

The payment is still due next month

On one income instead of two, a payment that used to be comfortable becomes the whole problem. Coverage buys the time to work out what happens next.

Your family gets the money, not the bank

They can clear the mortgage, keep paying it and use the rest for living costs, or move somewhere that suits them better. It stays their decision.

The coverage doesn't shrink

A personal policy stays at the amount you chose. It doesn't wind down alongside your remaining balance the way a lender's policy typically does.

No medical exam

A handful of health questions on the phone, and that's the underwriting. No labs, no needles, no waiting on results.

Common questions

Before you start

Is Quickest Coverage an insurance company?
No. Quickest Coverage is a lead referral service operated by JustRates Inc., a Canadian performance marketing company. We are not an insurer and not a broker, we don't underwrite or issue policies, and we don't give insurance advice. We sell the enquiry you submit to a licensed Canadian insurance broker or advisor, who prepares your quote and handles the application if you decide to go ahead.
Do I need to already have a mortgage?
It helps us size the coverage, but no. Plenty of people take out this kind of policy while house hunting, or renters who simply want their family covered. Your advisor will work with whatever your situation is.
Can I qualify with a health condition?
Very often, yes. Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, mental health history, and many cancer survivors can still get covered. Your advisor will ask the health questions on the call and tell you honestly where you stand.
Why do you need to text me a code?
Because it keeps the process honest. The code confirms the number belongs to you, which means no advisor wastes your time on a wrong number and no one submits your details without your knowledge. You only get one code, and you can stop at any point.
Where do you operate?
Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. We are not currently able to help in Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, or the territories.
What do you do with my information?
We sell it to a licensed Canadian insurance broker or advisor from our partner network so they can contact you and prepare your quote, and we are paid a referral fee for that introduction. That is how this service stays free to you. We do not sell your details to advertisers outside insurance and we do not add you to unrelated marketing lists. The full picture is in our Privacy Policy.
